Today I said goodbye to Chuca Russo. Chuca played a big part in the earlier years of my creative career. In a nutshell – I left school aged 14, I didn’t have a great time at school for various reasons. After a lot of grief I left and enrolled in Clarence St Art College with little support from people around me. It was lonely at first but I was surrounded by creative people and treated like an adult. This is where I met my art tutor Chuca Russo. She had big red curly hair, a wicked cynical sense of humour (we got on well) and was insanely talented. She gave me a big kick up the backside, and said to me ‘get your shit together kid’ so I did…(well kind of.)
Rest in peace Chuca xxxx.
