I was commissioned by Savera UK to create a set of limited edition hand-illustrated plates and prints for their annual conference for National Memorial Day. Savera UK operates across the United Kingdom to provide services to individuals from Black Minority Ethnic communities who are at risk of domestic abuse.
The National Memorial Day payed tribute to the legacy of Shafilea Ahmed who was murdered by her parents as well as other women, girls and men who have fallen victim to honour based abuse. The theme this year was ‘My Story’ with survivors sharing their experiences through dialogue and performance.
Using their brand colours, I created a strong flourishing symbol of growth and hope. I then drew this symbol on the plates, each one is slightly different from the last, making them unique. I then added additional flourishes and embellishments to the symbol for the set of prints.
